Former Miss Jamaica Universe Trudi Ferguson has died.
Ferguson, who won the Miss Jamaica Universe crown in 1996, died Friday after a battle with breast cancer.
Miss Universe Jamaica made the announcement via Facebook on Saturday, on the same day pageant organisers sent current title holder Davina Bennett off to Las Vegas, Nevada to represent the island in the Miss Universe contest.
“Although we are extremely excited to have sent Miss Universe Jamaica to Las Vegas, in the same breath we are extremely saddened by the passing of Miss Jamaica Universe 1996 Trudi Ferguson. Our heart and prayers go out to her friends and family,” the pageant organisers wrote on Facebook.
There have been an outpouring of tributes to Ferguson on social media since news broke of her passing.
There is never a dull moment when entertainers in the industry can step away from the tension and negative vibration to poke some fun at each other.

Lisa Hanna’s big day could be closer than we think as the Member of Parliament went shopping for her wedding dress recently.
Hanna took to Instagram on Thursday to give an update to her almost 200k followers.
“Went to two designers. I’m certainly NOT interested in trying anymore. Did it to see what all the Hype was about,” the former beauty queen wrote. “Not me at all. Can’t deal with all the fuss…I went and bought the fabric and said YES to my girl LOUISE. Doing everything right here in Jamaica by Jamaicans.”
Hanna is currently dating businessman Richard Lake, she announced her engagement last year on social media with a photo of herself showing off a ring, “Yes I said Yes!,” she wrote.
This will be the Miss World 1993 winner’s second marriage. She previously tied the knot with businessman David Panton in 1999 however filed for divorce back in 2004. They couple share a teenage son together.
Amidst a full roster of activities for the season, dancehall troubadour Aidonia is currently immersed in the studio working on material for his upcoming album.
Despite releasing ‘Project Sweat’ two years earlier, for which he received an honourable mention from Billboard Magazine and a top ten debut on the iTunes 100 Albums Chart. The ten-track compilation was presented as an EP and not an album. However, this latest body of work will mark the deejay’s official album debut since his emergence on the scene over a decade ago.
Alluding to the lengthy timeline for the album Aidonia says it’s all about timing and he wanted to deviate from the norm, but still, provide an offering that fans and the wider populous will appreciate musically.
“I want to provide fans with something exceptional that will transcend time and geographic boundaries. I am not a big fan of expendable music, hence I believe as an artiste it is extremely important to take the time and effort to mould each record on the album in the best way I possibly can. If I expect people to buy this it’s only fair that they receive their monies worth.” – Aidonia said.
“I want when someone downloads or puts my album into their player they can listen to the entire compilation from start to end without having to skip a song because it’s perceived as a sub-par effort.” – He added.
With no specific release date set, the ‘Yeah Yeah’ minstrel intimated that an approximate timeline would be for the first quarter of 2018. The compilation will be executively produced by his own 4th Genna Music imprint. When quizzed about possible collaborations a seemingly tight-lipped Aidonia says the album is still in its infancy and he doesn’t want to divulge too much at this time but hinted at a few surprises.
Meanwhile, dominating the FM airwaves and social scene with tracks like ‘Yeah Yeah’, ‘Fire’ and ‘IG Girls’ the deejay is now gearing up for a series of performances in Freeport and Nassau (the Bahamas) later this month.
Internationally, Aidonia’s summer anthem ‘Yeah Yeah’ was recently added to the ‘B-List’ of BBC 1Xtra’s Playlist where it now enjoys premium daytime rotation among a plethora of international A-listers.
Marvin The Beast was involved in serious car accident on Friday and narrowly escaped injuries, however it now seems his reputation is taking another beating.
Shortly after ‘The Beast’ confirmed the incident Sunday on Instagram, several rumors started to circulate claiming the controversial dancer is now homeless due to his wrecked car.
The reports comes weeks after Marvin’s estranged wife Lisa claimed he was living out of his car when he wasn’t staying with his longtime girlfriend DHQ Nickeisha.
She also added that he was operating motor vehicles in Jamaica without a license, which is punishable by law.
London was hit by a terrorist attack on Friday morning when a crude device exploded on a Tube train at Parsons Green station.
Passengers reported an explosion in a carriage of the train shortly after 8 a.m., during the morning rush hour. Several people appeared to have burn injuries.
Health officials say the number of people injured in the bombing is now at 22. None of the injuries is thought to be serious or life-threatening.
According to Terrorism analyst Magnus Ranstorp with the Swedish Defense University, Londoners have been very fortunate because the bomb placed on a subway appears not to have fully detonated.
British police say no one has been arrested in connection with a bombing on a London subway train, but hundreds of detectives are at work trying to hunt down the perpetrator or perpetrators.
London has been targeted by attackers several times this year, with vehicle attacks near Parliament, on London Bridge and near a mosque in Finsbury Park in north London.
